This week we had the great pleasure of chatting with Marty Englander, CEO of Englander dZignPak. Just a couple weeks ago, Marty and his team opened their newest office here in Bentonville, and it is hands-down one of the most beautiful renovations and re-purposing of space of which we have been a part. The property located directly across from Shogun in Bentonville, was once known as a space for restaurants, most well-known as the location of the late Brioso Brasil.
Over the last year, John Mack, a highly-esteemed architect in the community, helped Marty and his team with the planning of their new office reveal and the end result was breathtaking.
With natural lighting, a modern design motif, and the use of many recyclable and natural products, Englander dZignPak put a lot of time, consideration, and energy into making their new space a creative, collaborative, and sustainable facility. Tell us about your company…
In 1967, Englander Container was formed as a family-owned brown box graphics company. My father, Louie Englander, saw a need in Central Texas for shipping boxes and founded Englander Container in Waco, Texas. His focus was on customer needs and quick turnaround times. A few years later, in Dallas, TX, Ted Hager had similar plans and founded Hager Containers, with an unwavering commitment to customer service and satisfaction. Both businesses grew into thriving corrugated sheet plants and became known as vendors and partners with whom customers could rely. Both men became lifelong friends and business associates.
Collectively, we had a vision of growing the company beyond Central Texas. Our focus has been on customer-minded leadership, Englander has enhanced its structural and graphic design departments, expanded graphics packaging and display capabilities and added sales and distribution locations in the Austin/San Antonio area, Dallas/Fort Worth area and in Northwest Arkansas.
In 2003, Doug Zadow, Steve Hager and Carl Renner acquired the majority ownership of Hager Containers. After the acquisition of Shelby Packaging, Hager Containers officially changed its name to dZignPak. In addition to its substantial corrugated business, dZignPak expanded its operations with divisions in graphics design, distribution, foam and wood. The graphics division specializes in POP displays, sign holders, literature racks and trade-show displays.
In 2009, Englander expanded its production capabilities through the acquisition of a Carrollton, Texas based sign, banner and in-store marketing company, Sonntag. Their focus was on digital and screen-printed POP materials, security signage and fulfillment. We could now guide our customers through all steps of the design, production and fulfillment process.
In 2010, Englander acquired Stribling Packaging and Juiced Creative of Rogers, Arkansas. This strategic acquisition expanded the company’s regional footprint, opened the door to opportunities with Wal-Mart and brought increased production and design capabilities.
The partnership between Englander Container and dZignPak first began in 1997 with ownership in TexCorr, a corrugated sheet feeder. In 2011, the two 40+ year-old independent companies decided to finally join together. Englander Container & Display and dZignPak merged, forming Englander dZignPak, LLC.
Throughout the company’s growth and success, Englander dZignPak remains a privately held business and continues the long-standing tradition of delivering RESULTS by putting the customer first.
What inspired you to open this new office space?
The new space was top of mind after the Stribling acquistion in 2010. We knew at that point we would need to be thinking of a future space that would allow us an opportunity to grow and increase our community presence. We had looked at quite a few different options, and one day I recall driving down this road and thinking “what if that could be renovated into an office/industrial space?” I called Steve Fineberg, and we began brainstorming.
The ideas for a collaborative and creative space with the natural setting of the existing patio, greenery, trees, and access to the trails seemed ideal. We made a point to try and “buy local” on as many building materials as we could. It was important to us that we stayed true to our brand and to this community. Our office here in Bentonville has a staff of 12, and between all of our sites we employ nearly 200 individuals.
A lot of people sell what we sell, but not a lot of people do what we do, and we will continue to raise the bar in customer service. This new site continues to elevate us to the next level.
